Episode 37 – Wool@j13 Prep

Something a little different for you in this episode of the podcast. I recorded segments in the time leading up to Wool@j13 so that you could see some of the preparations involved for me as a vendor at a show. I hope you enjoy it!

Patterns mentioned include Rainbow Relay by Jane Murison and Angelus Novus by Renée Callahan, both available on Ravelry.

Zoe recorded her customary vlogs whilst we were on our trip to Wool@j13. She interviewed Jo from Jo Knit Sew and provided her usual hilarious commentary on our weekend! You can find her vlogs at http://www.youtube.com/pinsandneedles.

Episode 36 – Sun, Sea and Black Sand!

Welcome to the latest podcast episode, mainly recorded whilst we were on holiday in Puerto De La Cruz in Tenerife! Shownotes may be a bit brief this time, but better than none I suppose! Please get in touch if I’ve forgotten to note something down which interested you.

You can find me on most social media sites as @owlaboutyarn and you can reach me by leaving comments or emailing hello@owlaboutyarn.com. I have a Ravelry group and I’d love it if you would join! I also have a newsletter – please sign up here. Find my shop on Etsy at http://owlaboutyarn.etsy.com.

Zoe can be found on Instagram and Ravelry as @Pinsandneedlesuk. Her patterns are available on Ravelry in her designer shop, Zoe Carter Designs. If you don’t already, go and watch her podcasts on Youtube.

Shows I will be at as an exhibitor:

Wonderwool Wales, 28/29 April

Wool@j13, 12/13 May

Leeds Wool Festival, June 2nd

Yarningham, 14/15 July

I was working on socks in a design of my own imagining, a Leftie by Martina Behm (available on Ravelry) and a shawl project again from my own imagination. I sewed a tunic top from a pattern given to me by Lesley of Duckpool Lane. I also made Erin some shorts but completely forgot to show you those, my brain is the size of a pea!

Music is Flamencología by Gnawledge, I found it at freemusicarchive.org

Episode 34 – Busy, oh so busy!

We have a giveaway this week! Sponsored by the lovely Leigh of ShopLouLeigh, we have her latest pattern collection, the Tiny Owls collection! Pop over to the Ravelry thread to enter.

All through December you can find my yarn, project bags, stitch markers, fibre and earrings at the Handmade Studios Yarn Shop in Rowlands Castle near Portsmouth in Hampshire. So if you’re in the area, please do pop in!

There has just been a massive shop update at http://owlaboutyarn.etsy.com with loads of self striping yarns, gradients, earrings, stitch markers and lots of normal skeins too! So why not buy yourself or a friend something lovely for Christmas.

Two events I’ll be attending early(ish) next year; Craft4Crafters at the Westpoint Arena in Exeter from 15th-17th February. I’m exhibiting at this three day, polycraftual show! Then Zoe and I are having a holiday up to Edinburgh in March to visit the Edinburgh Yarn Festival and do a bit of sightseeing!

The Knit-Tea Retreat Anniken Allis KAL is still ongoing and the discount code will be good until the end of this month (December 2017). This KAL will end on January 21st.

See you in a fortnight or so for the last episode before Christmas!

Episode 33 – Back in the Hot Seat!

WIPs

Rosecraddock Shawl by Anniken Allis in Tibetan Owl yarn (merino/silk/yak) in the “Rose” colourway (this is being knitted for the #retreatannikenkal – more about this later)

Linho Sweater by Joji Locatelli in Cuddly Owl yarn, in a colourway that I designed for myself (a perk of being a yarn dyer for sure!)

Weasley Sweater by Alison Hansel in Hayfield Bonus Aran – I’m knitting this for Jack, my oldest son.

FO

Very impressive headphone cable covering, inspired by Jessica (@Naturallyknitty) from the Weasley Sisters Podcast

FO(ish!) Hundred Acre Wood Shawl by Helen Stewart. It’s an ‘ish’ because it was finished months ago, so I didn’t know if it was cheating to claim it as a finished object now!

Acquisitions

A couple of skeins of yarn at Yarndale from RiverKnits, one from Mothy and the Squid and one from Fleabubs and Lala, all for Ellie (@tyddynbryn). For myself I bought some bombproof sock yarn and some fabric to put towards my #handmadewardrobe. Also a shared pattern with Zoe for a cape/poncho. Link to statement button shop as promised… https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ASheepintheWoods (Although she does say she doesn’t ship to the UK, I notice now. I might send her an email to see if that’s a hard and fast policy!)

KAL – visit the Knit-Tea Retreat Ravelry group and join in our #retreatannikenkal – all are welcome, not only retreat attendees! Prizes will be given (We’ve received a gorgeous bag from Lesley at DuckPoolLane), and Anniken Allis has very kindly given us a discount code for her patterns, valid until the end of December. The KAL of any of Anniken’s patterns will continue until January 21st 2018.

Shop news

I’ll be at Nottingham Yarn Expo on the 11th and 12th November, stall number 98 in Forum Level 1.

I show you my latest stitch marker sets which will be coming with me to Nottingham. Shout out to Allidecks because I think I promised to post her a set of Doctor Who stitch markers, but I don’t have her address!

I also show you a box of hand carded batts, all lovely bright colours.

Any Other Business

Come and say hello if you’re going to Nottingham Yarn Expo, it’d be lovely to see you!

I’m going to chat with Zoe (of the Pins and Needles podcast) about the possibility of a joint podcast/vlog at Nottingham Yarn Expo – I think she’s in favour, so watch this space!
