Episode 33 – Back in the Hot Seat!

WIPs

Rosecraddock Shawl by Anniken Allis in Tibetan Owl yarn (merino/silk/yak) in the “Rose” colourway (this is being knitted for the #retreatannikenkal – more about this later)

Linho Sweater by Joji Locatelli in Cuddly Owl yarn, in a colourway that I designed for myself (a perk of being a yarn dyer for sure!)

Weasley Sweater by Alison Hansel in Hayfield Bonus Aran – I’m knitting this for Jack, my oldest son.

FO

Very impressive headphone cable covering, inspired by Jessica (@Naturallyknitty) from the Weasley Sisters Podcast

FO(ish!) Hundred Acre Wood Shawl by Helen Stewart. It’s an ‘ish’ because it was finished months ago, so I didn’t know if it was cheating to claim it as a finished object now!

Acquisitions

A couple of skeins of yarn at Yarndale from RiverKnits, one from Mothy and the Squid and one from Fleabubs and Lala, all for Ellie (@tyddynbryn). For myself I bought some bombproof sock yarn and some fabric to put towards my #handmadewardrobe. Also a shared pattern with Zoe for a cape/poncho. Link to statement button shop as promised… https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ASheepintheWoods (Although she does say she doesn’t ship to the UK, I notice now. I might send her an email to see if that’s a hard and fast policy!)

KAL – visit the Knit-Tea Retreat Ravelry group and join in our #retreatannikenkal – all are welcome, not only retreat attendees! Prizes will be given (We’ve received a gorgeous bag from Lesley at DuckPoolLane), and Anniken Allis has very kindly given us a discount code for her patterns, valid until the end of December. The KAL of any of Anniken’s patterns will continue until January 21st 2018.

Shop news

I’ll be at Nottingham Yarn Expo on the 11th and 12th November, stall number 98 in Forum Level 1.

I show you my latest stitch marker sets which will be coming with me to Nottingham. Shout out to Allidecks because I think I promised to post her a set of Doctor Who stitch markers, but I don’t have her address!

I also show you a box of hand carded batts, all lovely bright colours.

Any Other Business

Come and say hello if you’re going to Nottingham Yarn Expo, it’d be lovely to see you!

I’m going to chat with Zoe (of the Pins and Needles podcast) about the possibility of a joint podcast/vlog at Nottingham Yarn Expo – I think she’s in favour, so watch this space!

Preparing for West Wales Wool Show

Just eight days until I pack up all my things to take them to Narberth in Pembrokeshire for the West Wales Wool Show. Yesterday and today have been batt-making days! I am really enjoying laying out my palette of coloured fibre (mainly merino wool at the moment, although I’m looking forward to branching out soon) and putting together combinations before I feed them through my drum carder. I thought that I would enjoy this work even before I got the carder earlier this year, but there is something so satisfying about blending a seemingly odd mixture of plain coloured wool (and sparkle, or silk, or other additives!) together and bringing out a wonderful single piece, all harmonising hues. I’ve never felted anything (deliberately!!) before, but I am itching to felt one of these batts and make some sort of landscape out of it!

In the next few days I have wool dyeing plans. I have a big box full of yarn downstairs crying out to be vibrantly coloured, and hopefully early next week I will receive some fibre which I will dye up straight away and hope fervently I can get dry in time for the weekend! If not, it will be a shame but it will keep for Nottingham Yarn Expo in November.

I dyed a new colourway last week, and it is definitely being repeated when I charge up my dyepots tomorrow.

Inspired by the changing colours of all the foliage around my home, it is called “October Stroll” and I dyed it on 4ply (fingering) weight British BFL/nylon, which is my Happy Owl Sock base. What do you think? Does it shout “Autumn!” at you?
