Congratulations to hbu82 on winning 1st prize at the Pembrokeshire County Show with socks knitted from my yarn!
Planning a new KAL for the autumn. Any preferences?
I’ve deviated from my summer of socks pledge, and I’m wholly unapologetic! I blame the lovely Kay Jones (of the Bakery Bears podcast) as she had a one day sale on her patterns a little while ago and so I bought her “Duchess of Devonshire” shawl pattern. And I blame Deb from Little Boo Yarns for having gorgeously coloured yarns that called to me across the hall at Yarningham last month. Since I bought them they’ve been calling to be knit up, and so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
This shawl is going to be sparkletastic, with both the yarns I’m using having stellina in them. So I’ll have a gorgeously cheerful shawl for the winter. Awesome!
It’s not the best photo, I know, with the turquoise on the right being totally blown out, but I’m hoping that these two colourways will make a really pretty and beautifully wearable shawl. Here’s my progress so far…
I have to say, the 3.5mm needles (US 4) I’m using seem so clunky after knitting with sock needles for so long!
I’ll keep you updated on Instagram and the podcast as to my progress, but I’m hoping to have it finished in time to wear on the Great London Yarn Crawl next month.
I think, I think I’ve finally got all my yarns listed in the shop! On Thursday I finished off the skeins of fingering and laceweight, and I’ve just yesterday evening finished writing up and photo editing a heap of the smooshiest, softest DK merino yarn plus the new sets of fingering weight miniskeins. So lots of gorgeous colour has expanded the shop, I hope you like it all!
I’ve been working hard this week to bring you a bumper shop update. There are seventeen (yes, seventeen!!) new colourways on fingering weight yarn.
I’ve got sparkly yarns, yarns with a bit of nylon for the sock knitters, pure wool yarns…something for everyone!
Plus, as an added bonus, I have a handful of beautiful colourways on my laceweight yarn which is an 80% extra fine merino 20% silk blend. Soooooo soft!
There is an Owl About Yarn group on Ravelry. Did you know that? I always post a new thread for each podcast, and also post first there with shop news including discounts and giveaways.
At the moment we have an ongoing KAL. It is called “Socks and Shawls, oh my!” and, as suggested by the name, we are making things to go around our necks or to put on our feet! It started when my friend Marie offered to design and knit five beaded lace shawls for a wedding. I had already decided to knit socks all summer and I thought that maybe if other people crafted along with us, it might encourage us to reach our goals!
At the time of writing there are 97 completed projects from 21 people taking part! With just a couple of weeks remaining until the end of August deadline, I have started to think about prizes.
So far, there is a small drawstring project bag, a gorgeous hand made card from my friend Pam at Roath Crafts Market, a notions pouch sized tin of balm (great for dry hands for knitters!) from Nature’s Little Helpers (also at Roath Market) and a little random orange knit pouch that I made.
So why not come and join us? It’s a friendly group and I’d love to get to know more of you better. Plus, it’s the best way to make sure you don’t miss any exciting Owl About Yarn developments!
You remember how I talked about yarn as a souvenir of a day trip? (Much more satisfying and longer lasting than a stick of rock or tin of biscuits!) Well, I’ve expanded my horizons, as teeny tiny furry alpacas are so definitely a worthy souvenir of a fabulous day out at Toft Alpaca stud!
Welcome to my flock!
At the front is Agamemnon (of course, as he was my first true alpaca love, I shall never forget him!). At the back on the left is Aphrodite and on the right is Aletheia. From my teeny tiny herd I am of course expecting teeny tiny adorable toy crias to be born next summer!
Introduced to their new pasture, Agamemnon stays protective of his females and curious as to what the photographer is doing.
But then he spots an especially luscious bit of grass and heads off to investigate, his tiny harem forgotten. They’ve not really been paying much attention to him anyway, and carry on their gossiping about the new neighbours.
Another gorgeous purchase from Toft was this gorgeous, fluffy, lighter than air pompom. I knew I’d been waiting for a reason before I made my Baable hat, and this was it! This pompom will be its crowning glory, and I can’t wait to cast on before the weather cools down!
I did buy actual crafting stuff as I treated myself to this woolly mammoth kit which has been on my mind since I first saw it at Wonderwool Wales in April. Plus I got an ergonomic crochet hook to see whether it’ll help with the pain I get in my hands.
All in all, a nice bag of goodies, and I’m glad for every last bit of it!
My Instagram follower contest finished on Sunday evening, and I drew for the winner yesterday. I was overwhelmed by the response to the giveaway. In six days I had 219 entries by comments, 181 tagged re-posts of my image and I gained 300 followers! It’ll be time for the 2000 follower giveaway before you know it!
And many congratulations to @nessatownley, the winner! I hope you enjoy all the yummies I’ve chosen for the giveaway package!
